What is Safeguarding Connect for Education?
Safeguarding Connect is an internet management service provided by Network Connect which compliments the on-line protection services provided by our Education Connect service.

The need to keep children safe whilst in education has never been greater. Safeguarding Connect is designed to assist staff who are responsible for the protection against potentially harmful content on-line including those relating to the Prevent Duty. Safeguarding Connect provides this service in three ways, the collection and storage of internet traffic logs for retrieval and reporting, a live alerting service, and weekly internet security and usage report.

Internet usage logging:
A data log of all Internet traffic passing through the school's Fortigate Firewall is collected and stored for a period of 6 months. This enables reports to be generated if requested by law enforcement agencies or the schools safeguarding officers. The Fortigate Firewall is provided as part of Network Connect's Education Connect internet security service.

Live alerting:
Our Education Connect service is designed to protect against access to potentially harmful content online. For further protection it is essential that safeguarding officers are alerted to any attempts to access such material. Network Connect has a dedicated team which receives live alerts of attempts to visit inappropriate content relating to the Government Prevent Agenda and pupil safeguarding. Following an investigation, a member of our team will provide the appointed contact with the information gathered to enable the school to analyse and document inappropriate internet usage and take necessary action.

Security and usage analysis report:
A weekly Security Analysis report is emailed to the school providing an overview of all internet traffic and usage. The report gives visibility of several key areas, including most blocked sites and categories, top overall visited categories, and top users by bandwidth. |
Safeguarding Connect is a low cost and yet highly valued service. It is an additional service to our Education Connect service and is payable on a usage basis determined by the amount of internet logs generated and the time taken to analyse and report alerts. Typical cost are often less than £6/mth for the data storage with an average cost of just £5 per alert. Usage varies considerably from school to school, the average being 3 or 4 alerts per month.
